Get Car Insurance Quotes Online
As a car owner, it's important to understand that there is a wide selection of auto insurers for you to choose from. The easiest way to explore these companies is to go online and shop for auto insurance quotes and talk to a number of auto insurance agents. Before you decide on a company, however, you should first educate yourself on the background and reputation of the insurer to make sure it is the right one for you.
In a 2008 nation auto insurance study, J.D. Power and Associates conducted a survey which ranked the top auto insurance companies according to six different categories. Here are the top three auto insurance companies:
- Amica Mutual. The award-winner of the survey, Amica Mutual ranked among the best auto insurers in all five categories: overall experience, policy offerings, pricing, contacting the insurer and billing and payment. Founded in 1907, Amica Mutual Insurance Company is the oldest mutual insurer of cars in the U.S. Although its headquarters are in Lincoln, Rhode Island, Amica Mutual has subsidiary branches spread throughout the continental U.S. Amica Mutual operates in every state except Hawaii.
- State Farm. Not far behind Amica Mutual in the rankings of auto insurers is State Farm. Rated among the best in contacting the insurer and better than most in overall experience, policy offerings, and billing and payment, State Farm is one of the more well known auto insurers that also provides quality service. Established in 1922, State Farm has been the country's largest auto insurer since 1942, providing coverage for one out of every five cars on the road.
- Erie. Ranking very highly in all five categories on the study, Erie offers auto insurance that is among the best in pricing and better than most in overall experience, contacting the insurer, and billing and payment. However, if you've never heard of Erie, don't be discouraged. Beginning in 1925 in Pennsylvania, Erie prides itself in not operating like most big insurance companies and that's because they aren't very big. Erie Auto Insurance is only available in 11 states: Illinois, Indiana, Maryland/D.C., New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia and Wisconsin.
